Jerry Perkins, Senior Journalist for the Des
Moines Register, gave a talk entitled "Regional Journalists:
How Newspapers Make a Region" on Thursday, November 9, 2000
at 3:00 p.m. in Charter Hall 225 on the campus of Southwest Minnesota
State University.
Jerry Perkins is Farm Editor fo the Des Moines
Register, a position he has held since June, 1993. He was
a reporter at the Register from 1978 to 1988 and was an
agribusiness writer from 1982 to 1988. He was Public Affairs Director
of the Iowa Corn Growers Association - Iowa Corn Promotion Board
from 1988 to 1993, and managed the Russian-American Agribusiness
Center in Stavropol, Russia, from May to December, 1992 while
on a leave of absence from the Corn Growers. He is a native of
Des Moines, Iowa, graduated from George Washington University
in 1970 and spent two years in the Peace Corps from 1970 to 1972,
serving in Panama and Nicaragua. He and his wife, Peggy, have
three sons and live in Des Moines, Iowa.
