Geoff Cunfer, associate professor of Rural and
Regional Studies, addressed the Minnesota Population Center at
the University of Minnesota on Monday, April 7, 2003. The lecture
was at noon in Heller Hall at the University's Minneapolis campus.
Professor Cunfer's talk was entitled "Rural Population and
Land Use Trends in Southwest Minnesota, 1870-2000." It described
a region that has declined in population by 15% since 1940, but
which stabilized in the 1990s. Land use, on the other hand, has
changed little since the 1930s. More information about the Minnesota
