Some of the stranger color names that I have encountered are:

"Drizzel"- A Columbia jacket color. Who would guess it's "lightest tan"?

"Plush"-A Columbia jacket color. This is "soft rose" (pink?). And I thought plush was a texture!

"Medieval"-A color on the Asics men's 2070. It's too bad Panofsky and Huizinga are not around to hear about this one. I don't want to offend any medievalists, but American popular culture is leading me to demand a moratorium on the use of the word "medieval."

"Windchill White"- This is great for Minnesota.

A student once asked me what my favorite color was. I responded only with another question: "Are the regular colors like blue, red, and green around anymore?" I wonder when preschoolers and kindergarteners will learn "taupe, pine, ice, asphalt, cayenne, sunrise, and summer sky."
