This is a list of links provided by government
agencies, universities and news media that may be of use to area
reporters.

-- These two links lead to the same Web site that features links
to pages and sites done by sources as varied as individuals, Wired
News and different Minnesota agencies. Information at the links
are devoted to different types of renewable energy sources, rural
organizations and hobbies.
U.S. Agriculture Department
-- The department has several agencies and each agency has its
own Web site with a section devoted to press releases. This Web
page includes a linked list of USDA agency Web sites and links
directly to those sites' news and release sections.
Minnesota
Newspaper Association/Minnesota Newspaper Foundation -- This
site featues a listing of newspapers in the assocation, including
e-mail and Web links to those papers with those online resources.
Other site features include information about the association's
online advertising program, job opportunities and a members only
area.
American
Radio Works -- A branch of Minnesota Public, American RadioWorks
produces in-depth reports about events and issues anywhere in
the world. The site features several examples of the organization's
work in text and audio formats.

Editor -- The Newsroom Home Page provides links to major daily
newspaper sites, search sites, political coverage sites, reverse
telephone directorires, health news and even a site to find movie
scripts.
Poynter Institute
-- Much like the institute, the Poynter site is mainly an academic
resource for professional journalists. It offers the story behind
the story and issues of interest to reporters and editors.
Ivestigative Reporters
and Editor, Inc. -- Every reporter has to investigate someone
or something once in a while and this site offers plenty of seminars
and books that might be useful. Another particularly useful feature
of the site is the IRE's
Beat Source Guide which allows users to find sources in such
areas as agriculture, crime, environment and local government.
New
York Press Association Links Page -- This site has a vast
array of links, which visitors have to sort through themselves.
New
York Times Navigator -- On paper, this site covers eight pages.
There's an area intended for journalists as well as a reference
desk, telephone and e-mail directories and a list of publications
on the net.

Used Sites Related to U.S. Federal Government Information
-- This site features an extensive list of federal sites, search
engines and reports. It has everything from links to various departments
of the governments various branches to links to a variety of data
bases to reports on the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
Editors Web
-- Users of this site are asked to sign up for a weekly message
that takes them to a listing of releases from various federal
agencies. A sample of the release listing is accessible on the
site. Links to recent releases by various lawmakers are also available.
Agriculture Network
Information Center -- Besides a search engine, the center's
site offers links to several subjects of interest to people involved
in various agricultural fields.
Food and Agricultural
Organizations -- The FAO site offers a global perspective
on food and agricultural issues.
Census
of Agriculture -- Created by Oregon State University, this
site features the Census of Agriculture, from the National Agricultural
Statistics Service. It provides a complete picture of the agricultural
sector in the U.S. economy by county, state or zip code.
Stateline.org
-- Billed as "your source for state news," stateline.org is a
publication of the Pew Center on the States, a research project
administered by the University of Richmond. It offers stories
about issues throughout the country organized by state or such
subjects as healthcare, taxes/budget, land use and election reform.
Federal
Reserve Bank of Kansas City -- Wealth of information about
the reserve system and the people it serves. Located in the middle
of the country, the bank is also home to the newly created Center
for the Study of Rural America. The Center will produce studies
on economic topics regarding the future of the people who work
and live in rural America.
Center
for Rural Policy and Development -- The center's Web site
offers publications (in the PDF format) on a variety of issues
including education, health care, agriculture, environment, economic
development, land use, human services, law enforcement, community
relations, public utilities regulation, transportation and telecommunications.
Links on the site to various rural study centers are extensive.
League
of Minnesota Cities -- Some of the resources on this site
require a password, but features available include a bill tracker,
research library and a city directory.
Center for
Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA) -- CURA, a University of
Minnesota agency, works with nonprofits, ethnic and racial minority
groups, businesses, rural towns, inner city neighborhoods, suburban
communities, local governments and state agencies. Its site lists
contacts relevant to those issues and links to related sites.
