Honors & Awards

Joseph A. Amato received the 2005 Minnesota Humanities Prize for Literature, which recogizes contributions to the advancement of the humanities in Minnesota.

Janet Timmerman is the 2005 award winnder of the Ernest Teagarden Professional Scholar Award given by the Center for Western Studies at Augustana College. This award is given annually at the Dakota Conference on Northern Plains History. Janet's winning paper and presentation was titled "Leading the Pathfinders: Joseph LaFramboise on the Coteau des Prairies, 1833-1838."

Geoff Cunfer received the Rasmussen Award from the Organization of American Historians for his article ""Manure Matters on the Great Plains Frontier," published in the Journal of Interdisciplinary History.

Anthony Amato participated in his first marathon ever, and won! He ran in the Bismark Marathon on September 11, 2004.

CRRS is proud to recognize its student workers that received internships and scholarships this summer. Darlene Guse, a senior majoring in Chemistry and Business Finance, received one of only three SIFE year-long internships with the Schwan Food Company. Lisa Peterson, a sophomore majoring in Math and Computer Sciences, received an internship at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor through the Summer Research Opportunity Program. Jody Grismer, a junior majoring in history, was awarded the Joseph and Ethel Amato Scholarship for 2004. Tami DeKam, a sophomore majoring in history, received two internships and worked at both the Minnesota Historical Society site at Jeffer's Petroglyphs and the Renville County Historical Society Museum in Morton, MN. Congratulations and thanks to all our student workers for the fine job they have done!

Dr. Geoff Cunfer won the Presidential Book Award for his first book, a revision of his doctoral dissertation, entitled "The Great Plains: An Agricultural and Environmental History." November 2003

Dr. Joseph Amato's book Rethinking Home was chosen as the publication for the first book discussion session at the American Association for State and Local History. June 2003

Darlene Guse received a prestigious fellowship award from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. May 2003

Dr. Joseph Amato was chosen the 2003 recipient of the Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council Prairie Star Award. May 2003
