Jorie Miller, Rural and Regional Studies Fellow, will present
a reading from her memoir-in-process titled, For You There
Are No Words: A Southwestern Minnesota Story, on Thursday
April 21, 2005 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in IL 214. The reading will
be followed by a talk on writing the memoir.
Ms. Miller is a fourth-generation Minnesotan with farming and
immigrant roots reaching back 120 years. Her work at the Center
for Rural and Regional Studies has centered on collecting oral
histories, and on researching local historical records in Lyon
and Lincoln Counties, the setting for the memoir. Ms. Miller writes
poetry and memoir. She holds a BA in Humanities and MA in English
from the University of Minnesota. Her work has appeared in journals
such as California Quarterly, Fifth Column and ArtWorld Quarterly.
She teaches creative writing at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis.
